Developing a software solution for a multitude of phones, diverse home conditions, and inconsistent network conditions is an extremely technically difficult challenge. With that said, it is precisely this challenge that gives us such a strong sense of achievement when we make and see progress. Your support is what fuels us along the journey to perfection. Now, due to diverse devices and usage conditions, some complex issues can come up. In this article you'll find out what error codes are and how you can troubleshoot them.
What are Error Codes and why do they exist?
The 4-digit numbers you see when something isn’t quite right with Alfred are what we call Error Codes. Error Codes have been implemented to help both you and us pinpoint the potential cause of the problem. When you see an Error Code in Alfred, don’t dismiss it too soon! For example, so many factors could result in connectivity issues. The Error Codes provide invaluable information that allows us to narrow the problem down in order to tackle the problem for you.
Common Error Codes & solutions
Here are some of the most commonly-seen Error Codes as well as quick debugging advice from us:
1005
Failed to play video. (1005)
Why am I reading this?
This happens when your Viewer device cannot open/read the video file. 1005 happens to some phones that are running on Android 2.3 or other older versions of Android due to incompatibility.
What can I do?
Your videos have been generated and have been kept safe with us. However, we do need a different Viewer browser in order to play your videos. Try a newer Viewer device or try our WebViewer.
Behind-the-scene message from the developers: You know what? This is exactly what makes our job difficult. Alfred is a mobile app, a software program basically. There is no way we can control how hardware devices are made. It is very challenging to provide a consistent experience across platforms. Luckily we have some awesome engineers and are always getting better! We would truly appreciate your continued support.
1008
Failed to record video (1008)
Why am I reading this?
Something went wrong while your Camera device was recording a video. In most cases, it is because the storage of your Camera device is full. When you make a recording with Alfred, the footage is first produced and stored on your Camera device and then sent to the cloud when you release the “record” button. As such, your Camera device needs enough storage space for the videos.
What can I do?
Please check the storage of your phone and free up some space.
1010
Cannot connect to the Camera due to failed authorization. (1010)
There are two ways to improve this problem:
1. Update Alfred to the latest app version on ALL Viewer and Camera devices.
2. Remove Trust Circle's users and add them again.
1012
Failed to sign in. (1012)
1016
This Camera is not accessible now. Please try again later. (1016)
There are two possible reasons for why you might see this error message.
-
You tried to start a new Live session too soon after the last one ended. Wait at least 20 seconds and try again.
-
Another Viewer may be connected to your Camera, for example, another Viewer device you own, someone in your Trust Circle, or Alfred’s WebViewer. Please make sure any concurrent Live session has been terminated before trying again.
You can try Viewer Priority for Alfred Android to prevent this issue.
1017
Failed to apply the new Camera setting. Please make sure both your Viewer and Camera are connected. (1017)
1018
The Camera is currently connected by [Viewer device name]. Please make sure the other Viewer is closed and try again. (1018)
1019
Your connection has stopped as [Viewer device name] is connected to the Camera. (1019)
3001
Failed to sign in. (3001)
When you experience login issues on Alfred, you might see 3001/3006 error codes. The reasons may vary but here are some steps that might help you solve the issues:
1. Change your password to a stronger one
2. Revoke Google’s access and sign in again (if using Google account)
- Tap on your account
- Sign out of Alfred
- Sign in again.
If the above steps don't work:
- Remove Alfred as a Connected App through Google
- Sign into Alfred with your Gmail account again, and
- Grant all permissions to Alfred
3. Check your time and date settings
This problem happens to Camera devices that run on older Android versions. Time might stop if the device gets disconnected. To fix this problem, please adjust the time settings to match real-time and make sure the device has a stable internet connection to avoid this problem.
4. Make sure Alfred is updated
You might not be able to log in on an outdated version of Alfred. Please make sure you are running the latest version.
5. Turn the WiFi off and on
Sometimes, switching WiFi off and switching it back on again fixes login issues, particularly when the device is older.
6. Make sure all permissions have been granted
Depending on the platform you are using, you may be prompted to grant additional permissions when you sign in. Alfred only requests permissions that are essential to the service. Please make sure they are all granted when asked.
7. Make sure you have the latest version of Google Play services installed (if using Google account)
Many of Alfred’s features rely on Google Play Services to work properly. Please make sure your devices are running the latest version of Google Play Services to eliminate login problems.
3002
The session is interrupted due to poor network conditions. (3002)
Why am I reading this?
This error code comes up when your Camera device is under a poor network connection. You will receive a push notification like this on your Viewer device when your Camera device doesn’t have a strong and steady internet connection.
What can I do?
It is advised that you
- Shorten the distance between your Camera device and your WiFi router
- Check if your WiFi router resets itself regularly (which causes the disconnection)
3004
Reconnecting (3004)

Please go back to the sign in page and sign in with another email account.
If you tapped on "Sign in with Google" but tries to sign in with a non-Google email, you will not be able to log into Alfred. Please go back to the sign in page, select "Sign in with Email." Once you tap on "Sign in with Email," you can use any email account you'd like to sign into Alfred.
3006

What can I do?
To give Alfred the control of your camera, please close other photo related apps.

Why am I reading this?
This error code comes up when Alfred tries to generate a video but your Camera device runs out of space.
What can I do?
Please check if your Camera device has enough space. We recommend that you have at least 100MB of memory available.
5001
Failed to record video due to incorrect time on Camera. (5001)
Date and Time are really important, especially when we need timestamp for recorded videos. If you're running into video issues or other usage issues, please check the time setting on your Camera devices.
We understand that your Camera Unit may be an old smartphone that was left unused for several months, or years. When you turn it back on, the date and time may be set to a default setting, say, 1900/01/01. In that case, your Camera and Viewer devices cannot exchange real-time information correctly. Please make sure the system device time matches real-world's time for our services to work on your devices.
5002
Failed to download the video. Please try again later. (5002)
5003
Failed to send an email due to the lack of an email client app. Please install one and try again. (5003)

5012
Please go to your Camera and update Alfred. (5012)
Alfred is constantly evolving. We add new features, we make adjustments, and we make sure everything works as intended on different devices. We know that not all of you have regular access to your Camera devices, so we have been trying our best to make new updates compatible with older versions. However, this task has gone from complicated to impossible as time goes by…
To ensure everyone gets the best user experience, the version number will change as we move on.
When you see this message below the Camera thumbnail, your Camera will continue to work for a while with full functionality. However, we still encourage you to update your app as soon as possible to enable access to all the latest features as well as bug fixes.
Tip: Remotely Update Alfred on Your Android Device
Even if your Camera is placed somewhere high up or far away, you can update it easily from your PC!
We suggest you run the latest version on all your devices to optimize Alfred’s performance!

There are a few possibilities for you to run into these error messages:
1. The payment didn’t go through.
Alfred is always trying to make the payment process as smooth as possible. However, some things are difficult to foresee. This is the first thing you should try if you have already paid but did not receive an upgrade:
Android
Please try to tap the UPGRADE button again. If there is an incomplete purchase, the app will try to complete that.
iOS
- Tap UPGRADE in the app
- Choose the right plan (1 month /12 month)
- Tap on "Restore Purchase"
- Enter your App Store password
After this step, your account should be upgraded. If not, you should see an error pop-up message.
2. The upgrade is tied to another Alfred account.
The upgrade goes to the account that is logged in to Alfred at the time of purchase instead of the account that is tied to your Google Play Store/Apple ID. Please check your other accounts.
⚠️Note: If none of the above seems to be the problem, please contact us with the receipt (with order number) you got from Google Play Store / App Store / PayPal. We will make things right for you as soon as we can!
